WMPBEN Newsletter 2020

Gareth Phillips has thanked the Benevolent Fund for stepping in after his horrific ordeal last year. The Ben Fund member was left with multiple injuries, including a smashed pelvis when he was run over whilst on duty. PC Phillips had been called to a report of a stolen car in Moseley, Birmingham and was soon left fighting for his life in intensive care after being pinned underneath the BMW as thieves hijacked the vehicle and drove over the officer. The senseless attack caused serious life- changing injuries to the officer, but despite the awful events of last year Gaz has been in touch to thank us for the assistance we gave. “The Ben Fund got in contact with my wife, Lisa immediately after I was injured. The Fund has been great. They didn’t bother us at all, just waited until things had settled enough to discuss in practical terms how best they could help us. I knew my recovery would be a long process and the Fund agreed to pay for essential modifications to be done to our house. I also intend to visit St Michael’s Lodge for further intensive physio and hydrotherapy. We’re so grateful to the Fund for the support they have given.” It’s great to hear that Gaz is doing so well and we wish him continued progress on his road to recovery.
