Member categories and benefits
West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund has existed since 1974 and, over the years, our membership categories have changed to make them more cost-effective.
Some categories have become ‘protected’ which means and they are not available for new members. This also means that members in different categories pay different amounts and are entitled to different benefits. All benefits are paid at the absolute discretion of the Operations Committee as set out in the Fund’s rules.
These are the membership categories, how much they cost and their associated benefits:
Full members (serving officer or police staff employee)
Subscription per month is £2. You can apply for these benefits:
- Interest-free loans
- Grants
- Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
- Convalescence
- Death grants of £3,500 to nominated person
- £25 per week to children of deceased officer or police staff employee up to 16 years of age or 18 if in
full-time education - Discounted holidays at Fund’s holiday properties
- Exclusive rewards scheme offering a range of discounts
- Free Will Writing Service through Accord Legal Services
Full members (retired officer or police staff employee)
Subscription per month is £1. You can apply for these benefits:
- Interest-free loans
- Grants
- Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
- Convalescence
- Discounted holidays at Fund’s holiday properties
- Exclusive rewards scheme offering a range of discounts
- Free Will Writing Service through Accord Legal Services
Former dependent children who are members
Subscription per month is £1 or £10 per year paid in advance by Direct Debit. You can apply for these benefits:
- Interest-free loans
- Grants
- Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
- Convalescence
*Protected Members (serving officer and police staff employee)
*Protected membership is no longer available and only applies to a small number of members who opted for this membership category when we parted from the private health care scheme back in 2014.
Subscription is £5 per month. You can apply for these benefits:
- Interest-free loans
- Grants
- Small gifts (sickness vouchers)
- Convalescence
- £600 medical consultation limit
- Death grants of £3,500 to nominated person
- £25 per week to children of deceased officer up to 16 years of age or 18 if in full time education
- Discounted holidays at Fund’s holiday properties
- Exclusive rewards scheme offering a range of discounts
- Free Will Writing Service through Accord Legal Services
