It’s Debt Awareness Week,16 – 22 March

It’s Debt Awareness Week and for many people, the hardest part of dealing with debt isn’t the numbers, it’s the fear of reaching out.

  • Feeling embarrassed.
  • Worrying there won’t be any help.
  • Concerned about their credit score.

We have been working alongside our Partners PayPlan for many years now. They have a team of trained advisors who will take the time to understand your income, bills, debts and personal circumstances.

The first conversation usually includes:

  • A simple income & expenditure budget
  • A discussion about your debts and situation
  • Clear, straightforward information about the options available

They’re here to help you understand what feels right for you. You can pause and come back whenever you need to, with no pressure or rush.

Real stories, real change

To reinforce the benefits of talking to PayPlan about debt and how clients feel afterwards. They are publishing a series of five daily posts called ‘Debt Diaries’ this week.

People who have reached out for debt advice share their experience of how that decision transformed their lives.

This is Poppy’s story she was £44,000 in debt and realised her family were struggling to keep up with the mounting bills. She stretched herself financially on property and relied too much on credit cards, causing intense mental distress and strained relationships. She reached out to PayPlan who gave her step-by-step help. 12 months on, her finances and her family budgeting is back on track.

George’s debt prevented him from sleeping, he was getting deeper into a hole, getting to the stage where he felt there was no point being here.

After speaking to a PayPlan case worker, he felt a massive weight lifted from his shoulders, he cried with relief.

Treating people with compassion and understanding helps people like George get to a place where they can make ends meet.

Sometimes, simply understanding what’s holding you back can help things feel a little more manageable.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, not knowing where to start, give PayPlan a call and let them help you.

Poppy’s and George’s journey highlights just how powerful the right support can be.

It is also Neurodiversity week and PayPlan have earned outstanding recognition in this area

They understand the huge impact debt can have on mental health and are experienced in supporting clients with neurodiverse conditions.

Taking the first step to get debt advice can feel daunting. For many people, debt brings stress, worry and a sense of overwhelm – and those feelings alone can make it harder to reach out for help.
