We fall silent and remember

On today’s National Day of Memorial, Benevolent Fund Chairman, John Williams joined the Deputy Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine, Police Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, Simon Foster, officers from the West Midlands Police Honour Guard and representatives from West Midlands Police Staff Associations, to lay a memorial wreath at the foot of the Force’s Roll of Honour.

To mark the two-minute silence, police colleagues gathered in the reception area of Police HQ, Birmingham, to remember those who lost their lives in conflict and pay tribute to the special contribution of our fallen officers and their families.

“Today’s acts of remembrance remind us of the special connection the Benevolent Fund has to the names featured on the West Midlands Police Roll of Honour and our charity’s ongoing commitment to supporting the police family. It is always an honour to be a part of the Armistice Day tributes,” explained John.

Earlier this week, our chairman spent the morning at Lloyd House chaperoning officers from the RAF Regiment who were collecting for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Thanks to the generosity of police officers and staff at police headquarters, a total of £1,617 was raised from the sale of poppies.
