Thank you from the Benevolent Fund
A Message from our Chairman
Our police charity has had an incredible year. We have welcomed over 700 new members to the Benevolent Fund during 2021. This means we are not far off the impressive milestone of 8,000 members which is fantastic!
Face-to-face events are slowly returning across the Force and over the past 12 months, we had the pleasure of attending the Chief Constable’s TWM-Live Roadshow; pre-retirement seminars as well as giving inputs to the new recruits and transferees. Events, like these, provide a great opportunity to really engage with police colleagues. It allows us to explain the many benefits of joining the Ben Fund and how we can offer help through a person’s police service and well into their retirement too.
This year we have given out over £55,000 to support members in their hour of need. This of course would not be possible without the ongoing support of our members and their monthly subscriptions.
I would personally like to thank you for your continued support.
We have lots planned for 2022, including our ever-popular family fun days. Full details will be shared with members in our Newsletter. This will be emailed or posted out during the first week of January.
Don’t forget that our holiday home ballot will be open from 4th January. If you fancy a wonderful week away in one of our seaside properties please enter the ballot. Any remaining weeks not taken in the ballot will be available for members to book on a first come first served basis.
It was an honour to attend last month’s Armistice Day Tribute at Police HQ and lay a memorial wreath at the foot of the Force’s Roll of Honour.
The day’s act of remembrance provided an opportunity for us to reflect upon the Benevolent Fund’s heritage and our special connection with the names permanently featured on the dedicated memorial board.
PC Michael Hewitt is one of the names remembered on the Roll of Honour and we had the privilege of meeting his widow, Patricia Bayliss and his daughter, Lesley.

I’m incredibly proud of the fact that, over 47 years, the Benevolent Fund has remained steadfast in providing support to its members.
As we head into 2022, we will endeavour to play a vital role in supporting our members the best way we can.
On behalf of the Ben Fund Team, our Charity’s Trustees and Operation Committee I would like to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
Stay safe and keep well.
Warmest Wishes
John Williams
