Our charity Christmas cards are now on sale!

As we start to think about Christmas and the sharing of best wishes between friends and loved ones, we hope you will help us to raise vital funds by sending one our charity Christmas cards this year.

These are just a few examples of how the Ben Fund has stepped in to offer assistance this year;This year we have seen an increase in the number of police colleagues reaching out to us for support. A combined total of over £62,000 has been handed out in grants and sickness vouchers, as well as a number of convalescence and rehabilitation breaks to help members in need.

• A stairlift for a retired officer to enable them to remain in the family home and not go into residential care
• The purchase of a mobility scooter to enhance the independence and wellbeing of a retired officer
• Quick, short-term financial assistance to a police staff member who needed help with the cost of their children’s school uniforms and food essentials.
• Funding for a specialised buggy/chair for a serving officer’s severely autistic son
• Financial support for a retired member experiencing difficulties

Our charity’s Chairman, John Williams said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to say a personal thank you to all our members for your continued support during these exceptionally challenging times. From simply keeping up your membership subscription to sending messages of support. This clearly demonstrates the close police family that exists between the Benevolent Fund and the West Midlands Police.

“This year has been extremely difficult and we anticipate our role, in supporting both serving and retired members, will be even greater over the next 12 months. Every penny we receive soon adds up and makes a big difference to the lives of those who turn to us for help.

“We’re extremely fortunate to have the tremendous assistance of the Force and the Chief Constable, Dave Thompson, who has supported our charity cards initiative and recognises the vital role the Fund plays in supporting the needs of our wider policing family.”

The Police Crime Commissioner for West Midlands Police, David Jamieson commented: “The Benevolent Fund does a tremendous job to support officers and retired officers who need some additional assistance.

“It is West Midlands Police officers and staff who will directly benefit from you purchasing e-cards from the Benevolent Fund.

“The Fund is critical to continuing to support our colleagues and their wellbeing and it does an excellent job in supporting those in most need of help.”

Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: “The Benevolent Fund has a vital role in supporting the needs of our wider policing family.

“Purchasing and sending e-cards not only gives us an opportunity to show our friends and family that we are thinking of them at Christmas, it also carries a message that their wellbeing is important to us.”
