Donations to Ben Fund say “thanks for police efforts”
As 2020 draws to a close, it’s certainly been a year that many of us will remember for a very long time and equally a year that most of us would gladly like to forget!
Despite the challenges, sacrifices and heartache the Coronavirus pandemic brought with it this year, it also revealed the strength, courage, resilience, and above all, kindness of the British people.
Like many charities, our planned events and fundraising efforts were put on hold. However, we are immensely grateful for the support from our members, who continued with subscriptions, for the 500 plus serving officers and staff who joined the Fund this year and for the surge in donations we have received.
The majority of donations have come from the public who wanted to say thanks to the serving officers and staff of West Midlands Police.
We recently received a kind donation from a son whose Mum passed away in April, one of the thousands of older people in dementia care that had died of Covid-19.
The son explained he didn’t want to fritter the money his late mother had left him and wanted to use it in a positive way that will benefit others.
“I’ve always been aware of the West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund and the excellent work you do, supporting families of officers serving or otherwise, much the same as the Royal British Legion, hence my donation.
“I consider you all to be life savers in one way or another. I’m just happy to help and in awe of the work you all do.
Keep up the good work, I know the help and support you offer to the families of police officers and staff is a much-needed lifeline, and very much appreciated.”
This year certainly has been a difficult one but the donations are testimony to the heartfelt thanks from people wishing to give thanks to the police and the part they continue to play in the pandemic.
