Membership subscription freeze
As a police charity we pride ourselves on offering help and support to those who face financial hardship or personal distress; we are keen to support all our members as far as possible during these difficult times.
We announced at the beginning of this year our intention to increase monthly membership subscriptions by a very small amount, however in recognition of the unprecedented and ongoing challenges facing all of us due to Covid 19, we have taken the decision to freeze membership subscription fees for the foreseeable future.
Serving officers and police staff will continue to pay £2.00 per month and the membership rate for retired members will remain at £1.00. Protected members who pay either £5.00 (serving) or £3.75 (retired) will also be unaffected.
For the past five years, we’ve kept subscriptions as low as possible whilst continuing to offer substantial benefits. We’ve increased our sickness voucher entitlement and offered more choice of stores to redeem them at. We’ve improved our convalescence and rehabilitation breaks at the state-of-the-art holistic treatment centre St Michael’s Lodge and now provide well-being breaks too, offering a range of alternative therapies.
We purchased two seaside properties for members to enjoy discounted holidays and in the last three years have given out over a quarter of a million pounds to help members in times of need.
I’m sure you’ll agree this continues to offer excellent value for money.
All of this would not be possible, of course, without the continued loyalty of the serving officers, police staff and our retired members who pay into the Ben Fund.
Thanks to you and your monthly subscriptions we have been able to help members and their immediate family during really difficult times.
This year, alone, you helped pay for:
- a mobility scooter to enable a retired officer get out and about after a serious illness
- give financial assistance to a police staff member who needed short term help with an unexpected family issue.
- provide intensive physiotherapy and convalescence breaks each month to support members recovering from illness or injury.
- fund a specialised wheelchair for a serving officer’s severely autistic son
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support this year and hope you will spread the word about the work we do and encourage others to join or donate.
