Benevolent Fund pays tribute to the late Tony Timms

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent death of Tony Timms who passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on 2 September.

Tony devoted 20 years to the work of WMP Benevolent Fund

Most of Tony’s life was dedicated to the Police service. He was a valued member of our management committee, for almost 20 years, offering advice and support to its members.

He was also still involved in the Management Committee of the Birmingham branch of NARPO.

“He cared deeply and passionately about his serving and retired colleagues”, explains Jo Tildesley, Benevolent Fund Director.

“I certainly always hugely respected and admired his opinion on any issue that we were being asked to consider”

Tony was a long serving officer with West Midlands Police, retiring from the Force, as a Superintendent, in 1989. Following his retirement he became an active member on the Birmingham Branch Committee of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO).

In the late 70’s he served as an inspector at Thornhill Road then moved into the Force Control Room at Newton Street. He was promoted to Superintendent and worked on the ‘D’ division before returning to the Force Control Room prior to his retirement.

General Manager of the Fund, Steve Newbury added: “Looking back over the years it is clear to see that Tony has dedicated most of his life to helping others.

“His work and commitment to the Fund has been really appreciated and he will be really missed by everyone here at the Benevolent Fund.

“Staff, committee members, Fund Directors and friends of Tony would like to send their deepest condolences to his wife, Catherine and their two daughters, Sarah and Fiona at the this sad time.”
