Donations to Police Benevolent Fund as public show their appreciation
There has been a great sense of public solidarity following the Manchester bomb attack on 22 May.
Communities have been coming together to support each other and grateful members of the public are showing their appreciation of the bravery and resolve of police officers in keeping our streets safe.
One member of the public, Mr Sukhpal Singh, wanted to show his family’s appreciation by donating £251.00 to WMP Benevolent Fund.
Mr Singh was prompted by his 16-year-old daughter to contact Bloxwich Police Station after watching the emergency services rally together in response to the Manchester Arena atrocity.
“My daughter said, ‘We’ve got to do something to help Dad!’”, explained Mr Singh.
“We felt compelled to show our acknowledgement and appreciation of what the police were doing.
Mr Singh, from Willenhall, added, “Your bravery at this time cannot be praised enough while you carry out your duties to help protect people like us”.
Donations from the general public have increased this year following the tragic events of Westminster, where four people were killed including PC Keith Palmer and the recent Manchester Arena bombing. A woman and her sister (who wish to remain anonymous) gave a cash donation of £100 and a floral tribute was handed into a West Midlands Police station by Jilly Bates in memory of Keith Palmer.
“We see these donations as the public’s way of thanking West Midlands Police officers and staff for the good work they do”, explained Benevolent Fund Chairman, John Williams.
“This is valuable support that we are very grateful for as it enables the Fund to offer more help every year to police colleagues and their families.”
