Seaside ‘get-a-way’ is named after police founder Peel

Back in November last year the West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund became the proud owners of a three-bedroom town house ideally located in the popular seaside town of Weymouth.

In February it offered police colleagues the chance to name its new holiday home.

With many creative and catchy suggestions the Fund decided on a Robert Peel inspired entry, ‘Peel’s Retreat’

Principal five of Sir Robert Peel’s 1829 Law Enforcement mentions, “The offering of individual service and friendship to all members of society without regard to their race or social standing, by ready exercise of courtesy and friendly good humour.”

“The offering of service and friendship is exactly why West Midlands Police Benevolent Fund was founded back in 1974”, explains Fund chairman, John Williams.

Peel’s Retreat was suggested by serving officer and Benevolent Fund member, Alan Reeves. Alan currently works at Stechford police station on their investigation team.

With 17-years-service, Alan has been personally helped by the Benevolent Fund.

“The Ben Fund came to my aid back in April last year when I needed help. For £2.00 per month I would encourage all police officers and staff to join. You never know when you may need their assistance.”
