New Fund Director passionate about helping colleagues
The Benevolent Fund would like to give a warm welcome to Sergeant Nick Simpson who has taken up the role as one of the Board of Directors. Nick is a serving officer, currently based at Handsworth police station. Over his long career with West Midlands Police Sergeant Simpson has worked shifts on both proactive and reactive teams as well as working for CID. He is a keen golfer and enjoys family breaks exploring the beautiful landscape of Snowdonia and North Wales.
Throughout his service Nick has been a member of the Benevolent Fund and with less than three years until he retires wanted to offer his support.
“I wanted to be part of the Benevolent Fund because we the police are regarded as a ‘safe pair of hands, a can do organisation’ when it comes to dealing with members of the public and local communities, and rightly so, but at times we forget about the toll this can have on some of our police colleagues. We are only human after all and there are times we need support financially, mentally or otherwise.
“I had limited knowledge of the Benevolent Fund until I became a federation rep four years ago. As a rep I attended meetings with the Fund and could see first hand how it offered vital help and support to our police family.
“I observed straight away that members of the committee both serving and retired officers, of all ranks, were passionate about helping colleagues and their families.
“I was fortunate and privileged to be voted in as Director this year and enthusiastic about influencing the decisions made on how members’ contributions are spent or used in the future. I hope to bring new ideas to the table and look forward to being apart of a Fund that genuinely cares for its members.”
