The Chief says “I’m in!” and backs WMP Benevolent Fund’s latest campaign
Chief Constable Dave Thompson is the latest member to join the WMP Benevolent Fund and support its newest campaign.
I’m in! Are you? Is the campaign slogan and has been chorused by many Benevolent Fund members, keen to promote the Fund and encourage colleagues to join up.
The Chief is one of over 6,000 members, made up of both serving and retired police officers as well as police staff.
By paying a small monthly contribution to the Benevolent Fund, members have supported distressed colleagues in need of help.
Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: “It’s easy to forget that officers and staff can be affected by unexpected personal tragedy, illness or hardship. Their welfare is really important and that’s why I’m proud to be a member of the Fund… because I’m helping my colleagues.”
The Fund was established back in 1974 and over the last 10 years has given out over £1 million pounds in grants alone.
John Williams, Benevolent Fund Chairman adds: “The work of the Fund often goes on behind the scenes unnoticed, without people realising the level of support it is giving staff and officers of West Midlands Police. We get lots of calls from people in distress following an unexpected event in their life and they don’t know where to turn. We also get referrals from worried colleagues who ask us to step in and support a work friend at a time of need.
“Every case is presented to the Board of Directors anonymously and no two cases are ever the same. We get a great deal of satisfaction knowing we have helped those who really are facing a difficult time in their lives.”
The campaign will be running throughout the year and can be found on www.wmpbenfund.co.uk and on Facebook www.facebook/wmpben.co.uk and Twitter @wmpbenfund
