Helping a front line officer return to work after suffering a stroke

A fit and healthy serving officer who exercises daily does not expect to suffer a sudden stroke, whilst on duty. However that’s what happened to one West Midlands officer last year.

The stroke left him requiring specialist assistance to rebuild his strength and fitness. This was a long, slow and very costly process.

The WMP Benevolent Fund paid for specialist rehabilitation following officer's stroke at work

Funding a divorce and finding it hard to cope financially, the officer’s Federation Rep put him in touch with us. He was a member of the WMP Benevolent Fund and we were only too happy to offer our help.

“I only associated the Benevolent Fund with the death grant that’s paid out to my family upon my death, I didn’t realise they could help with so many other things besides.

“The Fund responded very quickly and offered to pay my rehabilitation costs which included sessions with a personal instructor, trained to care from stroke patients. Five months later I was back to front line police work, in the same role before I suffered my stroke!

“I am totally indebted to WMP Benevolent Fund for all their support and would like fellow colleagues to know how far a very small monthly contribution can go. You never know when you may appreciate their assistance. So if you are not a member please join.” Serving officer
