Fund support’s officer’s fund-raiser

Benevolent Fund members helped a former West Midlands police officer to take his family on holiday while he was suffering from terminal cancer.

The Fund donated £1,000 to help him take a break with his wife and nine-year-old son before he died earlier this summer. His family were also awarded a £3,500 death grant and his son will receive £25 per week until he is 18 from the Benevolent Fund.

Bob Denaro, who organised the fund-raiser, says his colleague devoted his life to helping others and was well-known in his community.

“He has been recently been diagnosed with advanced and terminal stage 4 lung cancer. As a non smoker who has lived a healthy lifestyle with less than three years to retirement, this news has been devastating for him and his family. He is well known throughout the community as well as being a friend and colleague to many of us over the years,” wrote Bob in his application for a donation.
