How we helped retired officer Dave
Dave Cross, a retired West Midlands Police officer, has said thanks to the Benevolent Fund for fitting a wet room at his home in Olton.
At 71, and already suffering from severe arthritis in hips, knees and ankles, climbing the stairs for Dave was at best slow and at worst painful.
A diagnosis of advanced metastic prostate cancer with other complications made Dave’s mobility at home even more difficult because the bathroom was upstairs. He approached the Benevolent Fund for help and we granted his application for a wet room.
“I cannot thank you enough for your great assistance. The work was done to a very high degree and life is now a lot easier,” he said.
Dave now plans to get an electric wheelchair and has asked us to recommend a trusted supplier.
Another retired member Steve Somerfield has also written in to thank us for sending him our summer newsletter.
“Just a few lines to say thank you for the newsletter. I’ve been a member for a number of years and I am retired. I’m so grateful for the newsletter as it told me all the up to date news with regard to the Benevolent Fund. I for one wouldn’t mind paying a small donation to keep it going say for 3-4 times a year when everything is changing. Don’t hesitate to contact me if needed, about the value of the newsletter to ‘old codgers’ like me.”
